Job Summary

We are seeking a seasoned Litigation Leader with 10+ years of hands-on experience to head our Retail Lending Litigation function, with a strong focus on Loan Against Property (LAP) portfolios.

The role involves end-to-end ownership of litigation strategy, proactive legal risk management, and driving recoveries in a fast-paced NBFC environment. The ideal candidate will bring deep expertise in Indian recovery laws (SARFAESI, DRT, IBC) and a proven track record of reducing NPAs through effective legal interventions.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and execute litigation strategies for Micro LAP portfolios
  • Lead a team of in-house lawyers and manage external counsel handling high-volume retail loan litigation
  • Oversee cases across DRT, Civil Courts, and SARFAESI proceedings
  • Monitor litigation portfolio health, analyze outcomes, and improve recovery rates while controlling provisioning costs
  • Ensure compliance with RBI regulations and NBFC-specific litigation protocols
  • Advise senior leadership on legal risks, loan structuring, borrower negotiations, and settlement strategies
  • Train recovery teams on litigation best practices and represent the organization in high-stakes matters
  • Analyze litigation trends (property title disputes, borrower insolvency, enforcement challenges) and recommend process improvements

Qualification :

Bachelor degree

Primary Responsibilities :

Qualifications & Experience

  • LLB with 10+ years of post-qualification litigation experience
  • Mandatory: Minimum 5+ years in retail lending litigation, specifically LAP / property-backed loans, within NBFCs, Banks, or ARCs
  • Strong understanding of Micro LAP dynamics: small-ticket property loans, MSME borrowers, and urban/rural recovery challenges
  • Hands-on experience with NPA management, enforcement actions, and settlement negotiations
  • Excellent negotiation, analytical, and stakeholder management skills
  • Ability to perform effectively in high-pressure, high-impact environments
